Multitudes Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy (the "Policy") is part of the Terms and Conditions ("Agreement") for accessing and using the resources and services (the "Services") provided by UCSF Multitudes ("Multitudes"). This Policy outlines the acceptable and responsible use of the Services by your organization and its authorized users. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to comply with this Policy. Violations of this Policy may result in suspension or termination of access to the Services.

1. Permitted Use

The Services provided by Multitudes are intended for educational, non-commercial purposes only. Authorized users within your organization (including educators, administrators, and students) may use the Services to:

  • Enhance educational outcomes through data-driven tools and resources.
  • Engage in research, learning, and professional development activities.
  • Use the services in ways that are consistent with the mission and educational objectives of your organization.

2. Prohibited Use

Your organization and its Authorized Users agree not to use the Services for any illegal, unethical, or harmful activities. Specifically, you agree not to:

  • Engage in unlawful conduct: Access, transmit, or distribute content that violates any applicable laws or regulations, including but not limited to content that is defamatory, obscene, or infringes on intellectual property rights.
  • Violate privacy or confidentiality: Use the Services to access or share personal data or student data in violation of privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). This includes sharing student data without the proper consents or using it for purposes not outlined in this Agreement.
  • Engage in unauthorized access: Attempt to access or use the Services in ways that are not authorized by this Policy, including hacking, bypassing security measures, or using another user’s account credentials without permission.
  • Transmit malware or malicious code: Upload or distribute viruses, worms, Trojan horses, or other malicious software that may harm the Services, disrupt other users' access, or compromise the security of the Services.
  • Use the Services for commercial purposes: Use the Services for any commercial, for-profit, or unauthorized purposes, including the sale or distribution of the Services or any content derived from the Services.

3. User Responsibilities

Your organization is responsible for ensuring that all Authorized Users comply with this Policy. This includes:

  • Ensuring that Authorized Users are appropriately trained to use the Services in accordance with this Policy.
  • Taking appropriate actions to protect the confidentiality of login credentials, and notifying Multitudes immediately of any security breach or unauthorized access.
  • Using the Services in a manner that supports a positive educational environment, free from harassment, discrimination, and inappropriate content.

4. Content and Data Mangement

  • Data Ownership and Use: Your organization and its Authorized Users retain ownership of any data they provide to Multitudes, including Student Data, subject to compliance with applicable laws such as FERPA and COPPA. You are responsible for ensuring that any content uploaded to the Services complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prohibition on Inappropriate Content: Authorized Users must not upload or share content that is inappropriate for educational settings. This includes offensive, harmful, or disruptive material, or content that could lead to a hostile or discriminatory environment.

5. Security and Compliance

  • Security Measures: Your organization must take reasonable precautions to protect the integrity and security of the Services, including safeguarding login credentials and ensuring that Authorized Users do not engage in activities that may compromise the security or availability of the Services.
  • Compliance with Laws: You agree to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies governing the use of educational technology, privacy, data security, and intellectual property, including FERPA, COPPA, and any other laws relating to student data.

6. Monitoring and Enforcement

  • Right to Monitor: Multitudes reserves the right to monitor access to and usage of the Services to ensure compliance with this Policy and to maintain the integrity of the Services.
  • Enforcement: Multitudes may take action, including suspension or termination of access to the Services, if it determines, in its sole discretion, that this Policy has been violated. Multitudes will notify your organization of any suspension or termination, as well as the reasons for the action, whenever possible.
  • Reporting Violations: If you become aware of any violation of this Policy, you must report it immediately to Multitudes. Reports can be submitted through [Insert Contact Information].

7. Consequences of Violations

Failure to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy may result in the following consequences:

  • Suspension or termination of access to the Services.
  • Removal of content that violates this Policy.
  • Potential legal action in the event of unlawful conduct, including the unauthorized use or distribution of personal data, or violations of intellectual property rights.

8. Changes to this Policy

Multitudes reserves the right to update or modify this Acceptable Use Policy at any time. Any changes will be posted on the Multitudes website, and the updated policy will be effective upon posting. Your organization’s continued use of the Services after such changes indicates your acceptance of the modified Policy.

9. Acknowledgement

By using the Services, your organization acknowledges that you have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy.
